Position: Business Intermediary

Personal Experience

Dwayne M. Mitchell is an experienced Business Intermediary and M&A Advisor, now proudly aligned with Equitas Business Brokers and the Business Succession Group, where he continues to serve business owners across Ontario and other parts of Canada.

After a successful 15-year run with Sunbelt Business Brokers, which he joined in 2009, Dwayne made the strategic decision in 2025 to transition to Equitas and Business Succession Group. This move was driven by a desire to offer his clients a deeper bench of expertise, more customized deal structures, and expanded transition planning support—all while continuing to focus on mid-market companies with revenues between $5M–$100M.

At Equitas, Dwayne works alongside a team of senior dealmakers, former business owners, and professional advisors who specialize in complex business transitions, private capital placements, and strategic exits. Through the Business Succession Group, he’s able to offer clients holistic succession strategies, including family and partner transitions, management buyouts, ESOP design, and private equity exit planning. The combination provides unmatched insight, resources, and execution capabilities tailored to entrepreneurs looking to preserve legacy and unlock maximum value.

Before his brokerage career, Dwayne built, grew, and sold multiple companies—and continues to hold ownership in active businesses today. His professional background also includes 15 years with Canada’s largest family-owned food distribution company, where he contributed to revenue growth from $180 million to over $500 million.

Dwayne holds an Ontario Real Estate License, and is a Certified Business Intermediary (CBI)—a designation held by fewer than 40 professionals in Canada. He is an active member of the International Business Brokers Association (IBBA), M&A Source, and several succession-focused industry organizations.

He also serves as Founder and Managing Partner of Mitchell Capital Partners, a boutique private equity firm made up of former business owners who acquire and grow companies through minority, majority, or full buyout structures.

Past roles and accolades include serving as President of the Jet Aircraft Museum, where he led aircraft acquisition and restoration projects, and receiving the Outstanding Citizen Award (2001) in Waterloo Region.

Dwayne’s interests outside of work are as dynamic as his career—aerobatic flying, long-range target shooting, boating, golf long-drive competitions, and exotic car rallies with the Mercedes-Benz and Corvette Clubs of Ontario. Above all, he values quality time with his wife, three sons, and two Doberman Pinschers.

Dwayne continues to work closely with a hand-picked advisory team of tax lawyers, business lawyers, bankers, financial advisors, and chartered accountants—all dedicated to ensuring a smooth, confidential, and value-maximizing outcome for every client he serves.
